Starbucks is one of my favorite places to be. I love just coming to sit or study or read or talk with someone or people watch. And I simply love coffee. I came here today to study a little and do some reading. Now, I always enjoy my Starbucks-going experiences. Today, however, was made special in the simplest way. I came in and ordered a grande Sumatra blend (The desciption is “Earthy and organic.” Delicious). The barista taking my order asked me if I had a minute to spare because he wanted to make me a “fresh” blend. I expected him to just brew a new pot. No. He proceeded to make me my own personal French press. Yum. Meanwhile, he starts talking to me about his love for coffee. He’s an older guy and is married. He tells me about how his wife bought him a French press for his birthday and how much he loves it. Then, as he hands me my coffee, he tells me this: “Enjoy is a transient verb. It needs an object, isn’t that beautiful? So, enjoy your coffee.” It was so unexpected and just…pleasant. And (this might be a Jesus Juke…but I’m doing it) it reminded me of what it means to enjoy God and all his blessings. What a great moment. So from one coffee lover to another, thank you, Starbucks man, for making my day that much brighter and reminding me of a simple truth.
